Accordingly, the proposed anti-dumping duty rate is up to 121.97% for enterprises related to Hoa Phat Group and 130.77% for other Vietnamese steel enterprises. This development is assessed to create significant impacts on Vietnamese steel exports to the US market in the near future.

The US imposes record-high anti-dumping duties

According to information from the Trade Remedies Department, the DOC has announced a preliminary conclusion in the anti-dumping investigation of reinforced concrete products imported from Vietnam. During the investigation, this agency selected Hoa Phat as the mandatory defendant, and at the same time considered 10 more related associated companies.

Preliminary results show that the anti-dumping duty applied to Hoa Phat and related enterprises is up to 121.97%. For Vietnamese enterprises that are not in the group of compulsory defendants, the temporary tax rate is even higher, at 130.77%.

Furthermore, the competitiveness of Vietnamese steel is further challenged by these tariffs, as they may lead to price increases and reduced market access for Vietnamese steel manufacturers.

This tariff is considered very high compared to the practice of many previous trade remedy cases and can directly affect the competitiveness of Vietnamese steel in the US market.

The implications of these tariffs for the Vietnamese steel industry are profound, requiring strategic adjustments from manufacturers to maintain their foothold in the US market.

Domestic steel prices increased simultaneously

Notably, the information from the US was announced in the context that the domestic construction steel market has just recorded a new price increase. Many steel manufacturers have simultaneously adjusted their selling prices since March 9, with a popular increase of about 300,000 VND/ton, equivalent to 300 VND/kg.

As domestic demand for Vietnamese steel continues to fluctuate, manufacturers are urged to innovate and adapt their strategies to meet both local and international demands.

In the Northern market, the price of Hoa Phat’s CB240 coil is at 13,800 VND/kg, while D10 CB300 rebar reaches 13,600 VND/kg. Other major brands such as Viet Duc, Viet Sing, Viet Italy and VAS also maintained a relatively stable price level after the adjustment.

In the Central and Southern regions, construction steel prices continue to fluctuate around the threshold from 12,500 to 13,900 VND/kg depending on the type and brand.

Trước tình hình thuế quan từ Mỹ, nhiều doanh nghiệp sản xuất thép đã đồng loạt điều chỉnh giá bán kể từ ngày 9/3, với mức tăng phổ biến khoảng 300.000 đồng/tấn, tương đương 300 đồng/kg.

Recovery signals from the raw material market

The recovery signals in the raw material market could potentially benefit the Vietnamese steel sector, allowing for better production capabilities and price stabilization.

In addition to the pressures from international trade, the steel raw material market is showing a number of positive signals. Iron ore prices on international exchanges simultaneously increased in the latest session. The April 2026 iron ore futures contract on the Dalian exchange rose 0.63%, to 797.5 yuan/ton, while prices in Singapore increased by $0.67, reaching $103.74/ton.

According to analysts, the increase in iron ore comes from the expectation that steel production in China will recover after many production restrictions are eased. The expected increase in operating capacity by Chinese steel mills may lead to an increase in the demand for input materials in the near future.

However, the finished steel market still shows caution. On the Shanghai Exchange, the price of steel bars for delivery in April 2026 decreased by 0.16%, while rebar and hot-rolled coils also recorded a slight decrease. Stainless steel alone is a rare product that increased in price in the latest trading session.

New challenges for export activities

The application of preliminary anti-dumping duties by the US at over 120% shows the trend of increasing trade remedies for imported steel products. For Vietnamese businesses, this will be a big challenge in maintaining market share in this important export market.

Experts suggest that the Vietnamese steel sector should focus on enhancing quality and sustainability to meet international standards and consumer preferences.

In that context, many experts believe that Vietnamese steel enterprises need to continue to diversify export markets, improve competitiveness and make better use of demand from the domestic market. As public investment and infrastructure construction continue to be promoted, the domestic market is expected to become an important growth driver, helping the Vietnamese steel industry reduce its dependence on increasingly demanding export markets.

Overall, the challenges posed by the US tariffs will require the Vietnamese steel industry to adapt quickly and strategically to maintain its competitive edge.

See some chemicals for the steel industry here: https://dk-chemicals.vn/
See some of our other products here: https://dk-metalsurfacetreatment.com/san-pham-cong-ty-tnhh-hoa-chat-d-k/

Vietnam’s steel industry has just received a remarkable piece of information when the US Department of Commerce (DOC) announced a preliminary conclusion in the anti-dumping investigation of reinforced concrete imported from Vietnam.
